I love the South

Hoppin John...what a name for food. Black eyed peas [I love 'em] and white rice with spices for New Years. When I'm full I plan to take a scoot.

"in the wind"

Richard Heck rides to work on prolly the most pimped up scoot in the club. I'll get over and get a picture of it, or maybe a video of him scooting. I really hope Richard will get to ride with us this Spring. He's a real hoot.

Seeya in the wind Richard

In the Wind

So i've been hunting for images of "In the Wind" and found all of these old adverts. I'll use different ones at different times.
This one goes to Phyllis Mathis. She was honored in an earlier post for riding to work each day.

If you know of someone who deserves the"In the Wind" award please respond to this post.

I've found what i think is a public domain icon for the goddess award. I will use it.
Here's to you Sheri.

Only the Brave

Well here's the brave group that gathered on Sunday for the ride to the Hiawasee. Did ya catch the "El Capitan's" new scoot? He wondered how we all put up with a 50cc....well we just did. Forget the popcorn, the video's too short. Seeya all soon.

Reminder. Following Sunday's ride, Max (aka fgm) and Mr Bill are serving hot cocoa at their place in Harrison.

Goddess award

HI,

Shiftless Sister here, and I just heard a wonderful story about one of our members.

And the first ever goddess award goes to:

Member Sheri S. owner of a 150cc Vespa bought in Atlanta. Seems since the purchase Sheri battled an ever -leaking tire. It needed more air and it needed more air and it needed more air.

Finally suffering enough, Sheri thoroughly reexamined a her scoot [Sheri does it have a road name?] to find that the tire had an embedded nail.

A model Fossil, Sheri said
"I've had enough and I'm not going to take it any more".
She wrote a letter to to Piaggio, or maybe it was on the phone ( Mr. Bill told me this ... he's not a man for details) recounting her problem started when she purchased her scoot, and what it cost for the tire replacement.

Piaggio, get this, wrote her a letter and sent her a check for the cost of the tire. BOOYA

So the first Goddess award goes to Sheri. News like this that gets to me will be posted here. And no guys won't get a goddess award but I haven't decided what they will get. Any ideas?

And according to Mr. Bill, Sheri gave Piaggio praise and her vote of confidence for the best dealer in town -Scenic City Scooters. I agree

Way to go Sheri!

For complete details ask Sheri this Sunday . REMEMBER THE RIDE. Check earlier posts or call Mr. Bill. I've found the pix for the award but can't it up for posting yet.
Return of the Honda Cub??

Check these machines

Just got a report from our faithful Indian Scout that the area that we are heading to is beautiful and is about 23 miles from Wolfteavor on a low/no traffic road. The Scout also reported that we should have a great trip. Look forward to seeing as many of you as possible. We leave from Scenic City at 1:00 PM, and from Wolf Teavor at 1:30 on this Sunday.

Tuesday, December 9, 2008

Sunday's Weather is forecast be in the 50's and clear. So unless it is raining or snowing, or perhaps a real danger of alien abduction, the ride will be a go. Hope all can make it.

SUNDAY RIDE I'm up for a ride this Sunday, Dec 14. Lets ride to the Cherokee Place mapped below. Start from Scenic City Scooter at 1:00. For those riders living to the east we can meet with them at Wolfteever Boat Ramp at 1:30 and then proceed up Birchwood Pike. All scooter riders welcome welcome, member or not.

FYI

Look 1

Look 2
December Run? From what I've gathered the Cherokee Removal Park is located at the north end of the attached map, on the TN River. I'm up for such a ride. Travel up Birchwood Pike? This will be a cold ride and you will need to be prepared. Remember it is easy to get cool on a bike but it is hard to get too warm. Wind chill, in December weather will be brutal at 40 mph speeds. Hypothermia is a real concern. When do you want to go?

Thinking about scooting

Hey all you riders.... let's be sure to have a ride this month. I'm thinking about a ride to the Cherokee Memorial in Meigs county.Since there has been a suggestion of a ride through the battlefield in N. GA, post your comments on which ride you want.
The ride to the memorial will start for those in Red Bank at Scenic City Scooters. Then Hixson riders can join in on Amnicola highway by coming over CB Robinson bridge. Meet up will be at the Riverpark pavillion This oKay?
if this is okay meet the 58 side riders at Harrison Bay Park and then we're off to Birchwood.

So none of the ride is on large highways. Riders from northside can use the turnoff just before 153 to get to 58. Time from RB to Birchwood should be about 60 minutes riding.
Then back to Bill Levy's for hot cocoa, coffee, or tea.

Well if you don't like any of the posted ideas so far submit your own. Ride Captain Doc Tracy will review all the ideas and set us up with a holiday ride. Let's plan on an afternoon ride so we don't all freeze.

This weekend is too short of notice so would you like to join us on weekend of December 13th or 20th or right after Christmas.

Next year I want the Fossils to be in the Toys for Tots ride or plan our own.
BTW, is not the FGM so beautiful

If you know of an interesting ride East of the River please let me know. A December ride is in the planning and rides to the East are being suggested. I need suggestions.

Thanks

Late this past weekend I learned that the gift of the Buddy was from my Fairy God Mother and not necessarily from Max and Bill. Prior to this time I never knew my family had a FGM attached to it, sure I had an uncle who we used to keep an eye on, but never knew about the FGM. Well anyway I was able to capture her with my trusty cameria. So here for the first time is a picture of a FGM.

Thanksgiving/Birthday Surprize

Yesterday afternoon while visiting with Max and Bill, Max endowed me with a Buddy 125. Her reasons for doing so (other than my being a wonderful person)were so that when we all rode, we could do so at safer highway speed. I was speechless at her generosity. Max, many thanks. When I rode the machine I was amazed at the ability of the scooter to easily exceed 55 mph. Not being used to the beast I was hesitant to apply full twist at that time. Now trips on the open road can be done without the fear and trembling that 50cc highway velocity produces.

Again Max many thanks.

So where to ride to on our first December ride?

Time for thanksgiving

Fellow Fossils,

This has been a tough year for me. Since last May both of my parents have died.
Having you as scooter buddies has been what I am thankful for this year. Bill Levy and Bill Tracy are such great guys. Since starting the club we have gained 40 or so members and taken many rides around Chattanooga.

Bill, Bill, and I plan to ride through the winter starting in December. We want to ride one weekend a month. So we can start up again, emails and phone calls will be made. We will ride in the afternoons to catch as much warmth as possible. No rides in rain, sleet or snow.

I have joined the S.P.A.Z. which stands for Scooter Patrol for annihilation of Zombies. I want to be prepared. My son Ben, also a scooter rider, agrees with me. So if you're interested contact me.

Scootmoto.com has agreed to let the club link to their site. This is a small site for scooter stuff.
this is take place after the first of the year.

Finally thanks to Hugh, Kathy, Stan and Jen of Scenic City Scooters for all the support they gave us.

Peace be with you.

Welcome back Max!!

For those not aware, Max was far afoot taking care of family matters in the distant north. She has returned safe and sound and will soon be making her presence known. Glad you are back Max.

FYI
One of our members, Chris, is selling his scooter. This would be a good purchase for someone who want a small (50cc) high mpg scoot. I average about 115 mpg on mine. His add: For Sale 2006 Honda Metropolitan 900 miles, first service done, like new w/helmet. I am upgrading to a 125 or 150 (Buddy, Buddy Intl., or Vino) and need to sell my current hot rod. It is in great shape and 700+ off the price of a 2008 model if you include taxes, first service, and helmet. Contact Chris

Run next Sat AM starting at 8:15 to Cloudland Canyon. This would be about a 70 mile ride (see map below). Meet at the Scooter Shop on Dayton Blvd

Friday morn saw the intrepid adventurers off to Lookout Mtn for a promised Great Adventure.

The Mountain

We arrive on the grounds of Covenant College.

Our Challange. The great tower that overlooks the Tennessee Valley. Closed to regular visitors since the 1940. But, by having friends in high places we obtained permission to venture into The Tower.

We climbed a narrow staircase.

No hesitation.

The intrepid ones (R to L, Bill, Max Mike, not pictured Bill) and their faithful Sherpa Guide (John Tracy).

One of many splendid views from the tower

Later our travels took us to the top of the Incline.

A view of Chattanooga from the Incline observation deck and of the way down to home.

Just a reminder. The meeting place for Friday's ride is at the New Scenic City Scooter location on Dayton Blvd. This is at the Memorial Drive and Dayton Blvd intersection across from the Taco Bell. See you at 7:30 AM there.

Tuesday, July 15, 2008

Lookout Mtn Run Friday. This ride just came into creation. It will be starting on Friday morning (July 18), at 7:30 AM from the new Scenic City Scooters Store on Dayton Blvd in trendy Red Bank If you check the route map you will notice that the ride ends at the top of Nick A Jack Road. The reason it ends is for security purposes. There will be a unique and totally unexpected event on this ride that you are likely to never again get the opportunity to experience. I know that none of you have done this before. This will be a unique, once in a lifetime thing that I only got the word of tonight (Tuesday). So if you can make it do so and be sure to bring your camera.

The ride will also explore the Mtn area and will likely include the Point Park area. No the Event does not include any of the Park. You should block out a good amount of time for, the event, sightseeing and the Park.

Let's not ask for more rain

I know that TN and surrounding states are in a drought. :(

But Fossils need to ride. This coming week looks pretty sunny. Let's try for a early morning ride.
This is close to my last Friday off, so maybe then???
Don't know where....someone  make a suggestion.
Shiftless Sister.

Starting off...Into the Wind salutes began here.

It's important that Bill Tracy, one of the founding Fossils, be introduced.
Bill has now retired, but he was a great practicing psychologist. I think he came to Chattown in 1984 or 85. We met through work. What I always loved about Dr. Data, as he has been known, is his remarkable head for data.
Oh well, such remembrances fall short.
Now on to the the Fossils. Bill was first to get a scoot. It was back last November, if I am correct.
The fabulous Metropolitan was his answer to travel. He goes everywhere on it. Everyday to the library in the sun or rain. He goes fishing several times a week on the scooter. Mr. Bones made Bill Tracy a rack for fishing gear. He goes everywhere, everyday, on his famed Metropolitan.
Be sure to ask him the mileage next time you see him.
Bill is also the creator and publisher of this blog. Thanks Bill for giving us a place in cyberspace.

So here's to you Bill Tracy for being the first to be a daily rider. The "Into the Wind" salutes are in your honor.

Shiftless Sister.

For serious road trips!
What do you think of this scooter from Korea?

Sunday saw these intrepid scooterists journeying forth to the wilds of Flat Top Mtn. The 3 hour, 90 mile trek revealed many wonderful sights and mountain road adventures. The sedate pace provided a comfortable trip and all returned safely to Chattanooga.

This will likely be our last departure from the Hixson location now that the Scooter Shop has relocated on Dayton Pike in colorful, urbane Red Bank (across from the Taco Bell). Our next voyage of discovery is in the planning stage. If you have any suggestions please voice them.

Friday, July 4, 2008

This is the machine that I'll be riding Sunday. I'm tired of my 50cc limitations.

Thursday, July 3, 2008

Are you up to this run? Sunday 7:30 AM start from the old Scenic City Scooters on Hixson Pike and do the Flat Top Mountain Run. This should be an interesting run into the wild area north of Soddy and south of Dayton. I have no idea of what we will be running into as I have not been in this area, should be interesting. I estimate this to be a 70+ mile trip so be prepared with gas and other supplies.

Just a reminder that Scenic City Scooters is moving this Weekend (July 4). The new location is on Dayton Blvd, across from the Taco Bell. They can use a hand moving, so if you are idle that weekend....

On this ride we had some serious machines join us for a while. One Harley and one big Honda (one day mine will grow up to be like this one). Three scooters made up the rest of the pack. For the scooters we had Robert & Lyn, Vic, and Bill T.

The obligatory group ride shot at the North Shore overlook. L to R Vic, Lyn, Robert, Cliff (Harley rider), Jeannie, Ron (big Honda)

The surviving scooters make it to Red Clay. Unfortunately the bigger machines turned off earlier.

One of the cabins at the park.

The big spring used by the Cherokee for water.

A fellow traveler.

Leaving the park we managed to enjoy a cooling shower as we motored the 47 miles back to Chattanooga
