On this ride we had some serious machines join us for a while. One Harley and one big Honda (one day mine will grow up to be like this one). Three scooters made up the rest of the pack. For the scooters we had Robert & Lyn, Vic, and Bill T.

The obligatory group ride shot at the North Shore overlook. L to R Vic, Lyn, Robert, Cliff (Harley rider), Jeannie, Ron (big Honda)

The surviving scooters make it to Red Clay. Unfortunately the bigger machines turned off earlier.

One of the cabins at the park.

The big spring used by the Cherokee for water.

A fellow traveler.

Leaving the park we managed to enjoy a cooling shower as we motored the 47 miles back to Chattanooga

In The Wind Salute

Phyllis Mathis rides to work and loves it. :)
Phyllis and Bill, quite spontaneously, traded in the 25os for bigger scoots. The idea was to be able to ride to places like Helen, GA and be safe.
I am proud to know Phyllis. She has ridden to work every day for two weeks since getting the new Honda.   What a woman.  She is the only other woman I know who rides to work. She rides from Harrison to East Ridge.

Here's a In The Wind Salute to you Phyllis

Shiftless Sister  aka SisterofTorment

Phyllis or Bill please post a comment to let folks know more about your new scoots.

Spontaneous rides

WEll, with so much happening with the club, I have been shabby in posts.  Lots of people are contacting Bill Levy after reading the articles wanting to know more and/or join the club. Seems there are many "mature" riders wanting to ride in a group.
So about the ride. This is a fine ride for Metropolitan crowd.

Saturday Mr. Bones and I went to Richard Heck's barbershop to give out applications. We saw Lynn's and Bill's new scoots. Lynn went down in ccs and Bill went up.
As we started to leave Bill said he and Phyllis would like to ride, as did Lynn and Richard so everyone was to call me. Richard and Lynn couldn't make it; so Phyllis, the Bills and I met at Harrison Bay, had lunch at the restaurant there, then took off toward Birchwood.
We went on the ride I hope the club will take to see the Memorial in Meigs County where the Indians were shipped off on what would later be known as the "trail of tears".
Nice ride, we missed the rain and it really cooled off. The heat rose as we reached Birchwood but on the scoots it was bearable.
The memorial is getting some additions.  There were folks working so we went in.
[be very wary of the large rocks at the beginning]. We stayed for a while, not too long, and went we tried to get out....THEY HAD LOCKED THE GATE!!!
Well Mr. Bones rode his scoot out by going around the gate, then he saved me by  riding my scoot out next to the gate AND (wait for it) there by the side of the gate was THE KEY....just there on the ground.
I think this was great news to Phyllis and Bill who were watching and probably thinking, "how will we do this?"

There was no sign, closes at xxxxx time. So  when the club rides we will look for the key first. :)

This is near the wildlife refuge where the cranes abide in the spring.; nice about 55 mile ride if we all meet at the 58 Waffle House, go to the memorial, and return. We could pack lunches and sit by the Hiawassee.
OR we could go further by crossing the river, going to Dayton, eating lunch there, and return to town via Dayton Blvd.

I like the idea of spontaneous rides, organized club rides, joining Hill City United for rides. I just love to ride.

How do folks feel about Sunday afternoon rides? Several people have mentioned that our rides and church attendance conflict, with church usually winning. While on the subject of rides, I'm thinking that a trip to Red Clay is due. June 29th would be a good time for such a venture forth with a meet time of 1:30. I'll post a map of the proposed route in a few days.
This morning the Bills were interviewed by the press for an article about the Fossils and scootering. This is to followed by a photo opp at Scenic City Scooters Friday at 1:00. If you can make it down for the photo shoot please do so. I believe that the article is slated for Sunday's paper. Will put out the word as to when when I know for sure.

License plate frames and more

The frames are ordered and I expect them at the end of this week. If you've received an original, handmade by Mr. Bones, you should keep it. You can have another frame with the professional logo. :)
I am going to write an article for Scoot about the Fossils. I will post it here first so members can comment, decide which pictures to use; you get the idea.

Inspired by the video

Watching the video inspired me to share my vision of scooter races here in the Scenic City. I'd like time trials.
In my next post I'll describe the courses I'd like to see.

Just in, a sneak preview of the new Fossils Plate holder. Talking with the designer in an exclusive interview, I learned they soon will be available for your scooter.

This is the Battlefield portion of next Sunday's ride (June 15). We will enter the Park from the North and exit on the West and continue on Missionary Ridge.

Due to a miscommunication many members missed last Sunday's Ride. So portions of that ride will be repeated next Sunday, June 15. The ride will form at 8:00 AM at Scenic City Scooters. The overlook on the North Shore will be repeated, then on to the Battlefield for a ride through the park, followed by a return on the Missionary Ridge Crest Road.

For future note. If a ride is announced on the web site, then unless it is canceled on the web site the ride will occur. If you have any questions email me

Gathering at 8, before the heat of the day, two hardy Fossils, Pam and Bill set forth on the City Run. The 60 mile journey included numerous scenic overlooks coupled with very little automobile (cager) traffic.

Starting with a senic overlook on the North Shore

our travels took us down ever colorful Rossville Blvd to Chickamauga Battlefield.

The Battlefield displayed its usual quiet dignity.

The return from the Battlefield was along the full length of the Crest Road, from Rossville through Missionary Ridge.

There on the Ridge, we found a Battlefield Monument at the headquarters of Confederate General Braxton Braggs.

Motoring through and oogling the housing in the Rivermont Development marked the end of our now, warm growing, 3 hour trek.

City ride planned for June 8, starting at 8:00 from Scenic City Scooters. This should last several hours and will involve great views.

Monday, June 2, 2008

Let's do a city ride during June. I've drawn a tentative route for a Sunday Morning Ride. Perhaps starting around 8:00, keeping heat in mind. This ride goes through roads in North Chattanooga, Downtown and the Walnut St Bridge (walk across?), Chickamulga Battlefield, Missionary Ridge, and Riverside Area. The ride can be a few hours or longer, depending on stops. There should be many opportunities for some great photos and coffee shops should be readily available. How does June 8th at 8:00 sound?
